Cementation named one of the Financial Post’s 2012 Ten Best Companies to Work For

February 1, 2012

NORTH BAY – In late 1998 a mine contracting company started in a small office in North Bay, Ontario, with a handful of employees and a goal to establish a design-build mine contracting company structured to tackle the most challenging and complex projects in the business. It was built based on a mission to become an employer of choice within the industry. Cementation Canada has grown to become an industry leader in North America and part of a global contracting company. Since its start Cementation Canada has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Employers in Canada 5 times, including most recently in 2012. And this year, the only Northern Ontario based company to do so. To add to this honour, on Feb 1, 2012 Cementation has been recognized as one of the 10 Best Companies to Work For in Canada by the Financial Post. The annual competition recognizes fast growing private sector companies with rapid career growth opportunities and leading-edge employee perks and benefits.

The Financial Post’s Ten Best Companies to Work For is organized by Mediacorp and is a subset of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition. Cementation’s selection was based on information submitted to this year’s “Top 100” program and additional research completed by Mediacorp. Employers were evaluated on their growth in revenue and workforce in comparison to other companies in their field, followed by a review of recruitment and retention policies.

Cementation’s growth within the mining sector is a result of attracting good people with aligned professional goals. Today the company employs approximately 1500 people in projects across Canada and the USA and is involved in a number of international projects as well. The mining industry offers tremendous career opportunities and these opportunities are only going to increase as the current workforce approaches retirement in growing numbers. Success as a company opens more career options and greater opportunity to support employees in their life balance pursuit. “Being successful financially enables us to pursue our vision of making changes to our industry for the benefit of all stakeholders. As an employer of choice we recognize the importance of our employees as key stakeholders. Strong financial management and success allows us to treat our employees well and engage in meaningful programs that improve the safety of our operations, and the quality of life of our employees and the communities they work in,” says Roy Slack, President of Cementation.
