Because Working Safely is the Right Way to Work

Safety Overview

Cementation is committed to safety because working safely is the right way to work. We care about our employees and feel that they deserve a safe work place and a safety culture they can embrace at work, and bring home as well. We also recognize that a safe contractor will be more attractive to both employees and Clients and this aligns with our goal of being both an employer and contractor of choice. Our target is always zero harm within our operations and for our employees and their families at home as well. Our vision as a company is to change the way mine contracting is carried out in our industry for the benefit of all stakeholders. The first change we want to make is to eliminate harm within our industry and the stakeholders who benefit from this most are the ones with the greatest personal stake in our company, our employees.

Health & Safety Policy Statement

January 2017

The Management of Cementation Canada Inc. are committed to preserving the health and safety of our employees, our Clients’ employees and any other personnel that interact with our operations.

This commitment has resulted in establishing our ultimate goal of zero harm.

We expect our employees to be committed to safety, and to demonstrate their commitment on a daily basis through their actions and involvement in their work and the company safety programs and initiatives, and in strict adherence to rules, regulations, and other requirements, such as company standards, work instructions and procedures. We encourage our employees to take safe work practices home with them and get their families involved in living healthy and safe.

We will foster a culture conducive to reporting of unsafe acts or conditions in order that we may identify and negate those conditions before injuries occur.

We develop and maintain site specific, comprehensive health and safety programs for each of our projects and offices. We emphasize proper implementation of our programs, and expect participation by all of our employees. We promote proactive health and safety programs and initiatives and will work towards the continuous improvement of those programs.

We expect our safety professionals and our management and supervision to be passionate about health and safety, and to lead by example.

We are committed to health and safety because our ethics dictate that the people involved in our projects should leave work each day unharmed, because injuries in the workplace are unacceptable. We are committed to safety because it is the right way to work.

Industry Involvement

Cementation and our employees are leaders in the safety community and actively participate in regional, national and international safety groups and committees. Involvement is an integral part of our vision to change the industry we work in for the better. Employee passion and engagement to work safely and participate at all levels, allows Cementation to influence operating practices in the industry and to learn from other industry leaders. It is through collaboration, not competition that zero harm on all projects will be achieved.

Safety Share

It is important that we have a reporting culture where all our employees are encouraged to report all near misses and close calls. A strong reporting culture will ensure that every hazard is controlled, risk is reduced in the workplace, and harmful incidents are prevented because all the conditions that lead to injury or loss are acted upon. All incidents must be investigated to determine the true potential for loss and to identify and review the root causes to determine any weaknesses in the system. We use the information that comes from investigating these incidents to improve our systems for better hazard controls combined with increased risk reduction, and then we share the lessons learned both within our company and outside with safety groups and Clients. All of this can be done to prevent an incident that can lead to some form of injury or loss. This is part of being proactive when it comes to safety.
